Jonathon Wilson Ready Steady Cut Warm and earnest in its depiction of Alzheimer’s disease, but its lack of ambition means that Live Twice, Love Once never amounts to much. Rated: 3/5 Nov 13, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies While I can’t (and won’t) deny the movie’s dual effect (it’s both heart-wrenching and heartwarming), I also can’t deny that it ventures pretty deep into routine sentimentality. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Renee Schonfeld Common Sense Media Affecting dramedy about facing Alzheimer's; cursing. Rated: 3/5 Jan 23, 2020 Full Review Pablo O. Scholz Clarín Quite predictable. [Full review in Spanish] Jan 14, 2020 Full Review John Serba Decider It's earnest, well-meaning, entirely watchable and utterly forgettable. Jan 10, 2020 Full Review Alberto Luchini El Mundo (Spain) The film aspires to be an emotive and moving, but doesn't succeed. Late R It's treading familiar territory and doesn't break any new ground, but what ‘Live Twice, Love Once' lacks in originality or depth it makes up for with heart. Funny and bittersweet, it's a wonderfully charming little film with endearing characters (Oscar Martinez is fantastic and his character's relationship with Mafalda Carbonell's is a lot of fun) that sets out to tell a story dealing with a depressing subject in a way that, whilst not shying away entirely from some of the more bleak aspects, still wants to leave you with an overall positive impression. Nothing demonstrates that more than the colourful visuals and sentimental finale. It's a little bit sappy and it knows it, firmly directing itself towards a particular audience; if you want heavy, dark, and raw, this isn't ain't it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/03/22 Full Review Audience Member Es una película española muy divertida y conmovedora; la trama es buena y las actuaciones son excelentes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A moving story, which deals with a deep subject such as Alzhaimer and family. Una historia conmovedora, que trata un tema muy profundo como lo es el Alzhaimer, y la familia. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A film from the heart for sure. At 74 myself, I have seen friends with alzheimers becoming less able to live well in this world that younger people often think is reality. I have wondered if perhaps I am seeing glimpses of forgetfulness more than I had before and wondering a bit at my own future. What an incredibly beautiful relationship between a grandfather, his memories, and his family, especially his granddaughter. It makes me wish I had grandchildren. I will be sending this to my own family, and all of my other senior friends. For anyone studying Spanish, this is a lovely slow paced and clearly spoken movie to include in your to watch list. (This is definitely Not for action film addicts.) Enjoy Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Joel H This film, about a man falling into the abyss of Alzheimers, is wonderfully acted. Óscar Martínez as the lead role is excellent. It is about the relationships within his family, and how his condition affects everyone including himself. He is initially not close with them, but you see him need them more and more. The development of his relationship with his daughter (who tries so hard to fix everyone at her own expense) and his granddaughter (who is bratty but very smart) is powerful and moving. It is a deeply tragic film - how could it not be? - but is also very sweet and funny and thoughtful. By the end I was in tears, which is not my usual favorite kind of movie, but this one I recommend highly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/20 Full Review Audience Member This is a heartwarming film that looks into the reality of a terrible disease. Ive seen it twice and cried both times. Have your tissues ready! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
