Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle "Living Is Easy With Eyes Closed" is subtle in the truest sense, in that it says and suggests much, and does so definitely, but through a minimum of means. Rated: 4/4 Mar 19, 2015 Full Review Ben Sachs Chicago Reader Javier Camara, best known here for his work with Pedro Almodovar, is quite good as the teacher, delivering a performance of real tenderness and depth. In Spanish with subtitles. Mar 12, 2015 Full Review Philippa Hawker The Age (Australia) It's a project that could easily be weighed down with nostalgia or over-determination, but there's a generosity and humour about the performances and the direction that keep the film light and buoyant. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 24, 2014 Full Review Kathy Fennessy The Stranger (Seattle, WA) I assumed while, watching the film, that it represented a form of cinematic wish fulfillment. Aug 22, 2017 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk The film takes its mood from its hero: gentle, good-humoured and tinged with melancholy. The pace is leisurely, but Antonio's openhearted kindness is so winning and charming that you won't mind the time it takes to get to the destination. Rated: 4/5 Nov 20, 2016 Full Review Ernesto Diezmartinez Cine Vértigo A throaway road-movie, well acted, somewhat funny, but in the end it's just pretty standard. Daniel G I should have guessed that the title comes from the lyrics of a Beatles song, for it totally makes sense in this perfect little movie about a road trip in Spain in the 1960s. Just everything was in place - just enough was presented for one to understand these people and to make the solidarity of some and the prejudice of others so believable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review isla s This is quite a quirky film with some fairly amusing moments. The characters are all quite likeable in their own way, particularly the main character, who seems more than a little bird brained it could be said but yet I found myself wishing the best for him. I could relate, a little, to what he says about the importance certain music, or lyrics, can have on a person. The main plot is a bit daft but I enjoyed watching it never the less. Oh and I also liked the old(ish) cars present, which are also kind of quirky in their own way too. There is some English present but its mainly a Spanish film, for the most part. I'd recommend it to fans of Spanish film and quriky films with a little bit of comedy present. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed this quirky film. It ended up being less about John Lennon than his acolyte, the affable teacher, Antonio, who cares so much about his students and the potential of Beatles lyrics as a tool to teach them English. My favorite scene was where Antonio, on a whim, races through the bully's garden, trashing all his carefully tied plant supports and tomatoes, before racing off back home to get back to his life. That was just a small part of the plot. Still, it was very gratifying, somehow, to see the jerk get his come-uppance even if the boy he bullied never knew it happened. Another interesting scene happened earlier in the film where Antonio, outraged that his new friend preferred the Stones to the Beatles, kicks him out of the car before quickly repenting of his misdeed and almost immediately inviting him back in. I think good guys are more interesting than bad guys. Maybe that's why I enjoyed Ted Lasso. In a world where psychopaths like Vladimir Putin are able to wreak so much havoc and destruction on complete strangers, it's nice to occasionally celebrate the people who make the world a better place. Antonio is definitely one of these. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review gareth d Nice, cute, funny, the subtitles weren't exactly great but still managed to enjoy it anyway, an oddball collection of characters on a road trip.
