Penelope Gilliatt The New Yorker Never was a sci-fi film so infected with the ruling national belief that young is beautiful. Logan and Jessica regard the lines in the old man’s face as an offense against aesthetics. Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader A numbing combination of sloppy writing, vulgar art direction, high school acting, and bungled special effects. Jun 4, 2007 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Fundamentally, this is just further proof of Hollywood's untiring ability to reduce all science fiction to its most feeble stereotypes. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) What's missing is originality in the plot. Some good ideas are established in the beginning, but they're jettisoned in favor of the "Man against the System" story that turns up in at least one sci-fi film a year. May 9, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...interesting to hardcore sci-fi fans and cultural historians, Logan's Run is all dressed-up with nowhere to go... Rated: 3/5 Aug 24, 2021 Full Review David A. Nardozzi Philadelphia Gay News Logan's Run allows the viewer's imagination to run free in a whole new world. D Z One of my favourite sci-FI movies of all time. Great emotional ending that left me thinking about the movie for a long time after it had ended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Melanie W Michael York apparently was a bad actor if he couldn't make his character believable. And Peter Ustinov?? What on Earth made him want to be in such a weak movie? He was Way better than That. Cheesey, horrible "plot" and writing. Bad directing. What a waste of almost 2 hours Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Audience Member I saw this a long time ago, but it appears I never wrote my review. So I’m just gonna say I liked it a lot. It has one of the more interesting depictions of the future out there, even if the visuals are super outdated lol. I loved the realization from the main character that no one was getting recycled, that blew my mind (even if it was predictable). I think I’ll rewatch this one and see if I still like it. Either way I think you should see this one at least once, 3.5/5 stars. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Blu B It's got a lot of interesting ideas and production value behind it and for the most part the story works. The problem is the direction, campiness, and acting leaves a lot to be desired in this case. The acting is easily the weakest part and is just ok. The chemistry between the two leads isn't anything special and the dialouge is just ok as well. Everything else though isn't bad about including some solid editing. There is tons of practical effects in this and exotic set design but it looks ok and hasn't aged anywhere as well as some of its contemporaries from this era. It reminds me of the asetics of something like Barberella or Superman The Movie (with the camp of each as well). Sometimes it can look a little cheap every now and than also with certain elements but the effort shows overall. The music alternates between being boring and a weird whiny synth and good cinematic scores. It defintely needed a more memorable and consistent soundtrack. The camerawork is pretty basic and certain scenes feel like they just drag on like when they meet the old man and ask 20 questions with him. This needed to speed things up every now and than. The story isn't broken either and makes perfect sense again just needed better acting, faster/more consistent pacing, and more consistent score than anything. It's cool to see a standalone Sci-Fi flick pre Star Wars from this era though. Anyone who is a fan of any actors in this, Pre Star Wars Sci-Fi, or the director may want to check this out. This could probably be remade with a better director and be superior today. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely preposterous screenplay and even worse production. It's too obvious that huge minutes of the footage were shot in a shopping mall and. worse, a sewage treatment plant. Jenny really makes tracks in that mini and high heels during the "run," eh? Reportedly sets and special effects ate up most of the budget especially that laughable "carousel" stuff. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the really bad matte paintings of DC in the third act. How TF did they get a good actor like Ustinov to take that role when everyone else in the cast is a hack? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Alec B I think that the movie works because of the design elements, not in spite of them (for one thing, having a hedonistic society where no one is allowed to live past 30 exist entirely in an ugly shopping mall works a little too well). Also its well cast and has the right blend of pessimism and hope. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
