In the year 2274, young residents enjoy an idyllic, hedonistic lifestyle within the protective confines of a domed city. The general belief is that when each person turns 30, they are reincarnated for another blissful life cycle. Those who know the much darker truth become "runners" and flee to a hidden sanctuary. When law enforcement officer Logan (Michael York) goes undercover to locate the refuge, he winds up instead trying to initiate a revolution with runner Jessica (Jenny Agutter).

Logan's Run overcomes its campier elements and undercooked plot with a bounty of rousing ideas and dashing sci-fi adventure.

Never was a sci-fi film so infected with the ruling national belief that young is beautiful. Logan and Jessica regard the lines in the old man’s face as an offense against aesthetics. Go to Full Review

A numbing combination of sloppy writing, vulgar art direction, high school acting, and bungled special effects. Go to Full Review

Fundamentally, this is just further proof of Hollywood's untiring ability to reduce all science fiction to its most feeble stereotypes. Go to Full Review

What's missing is originality in the plot. Some good ideas are established in the beginning, but they're jettisoned in favor of the "Man against the System" story that turns up in at least one sci-fi film a year. Go to Full Review

TI H @MeInCharacter Sep 15 Even this movie's mistakes become part of its charm. I can't give it five stars, but I give it 4.5 for maintaining its greatness for over fifty years in sea of sci-fi flicks. See more alex p Aug 13 has a lot of potential, if it were remade today it would definitely be a smash hit! See more Hughe J Jul 25 Logan's Run was released in theatres in 1976 and is a classic dystopian style science fiction movie. Set in 2276 following an unknown global catastrophe humanity now lives in domes where all of their desires are met but with the catch that they all must die by age 30. The residents don't know this of course as they believe they will be reborn on "Carousel". Anyone that refuses Carousel and tries to run away are hunted by a Sandman, a sort of law enforcement / hunter who kills runners. Michael York stars as one of these Sandman as does Richard Jordan. The movie also stars Farrah Fawcett, Peter Ustinov, and Jenny Agutter. The plot was actually good, the acting was acceptable, and the special effects were ahead of it's time but very dated by today's standards. This won a number of awards and is overall an enjoyable movie, although again a bit dated with a very 70's feel. Still, worth a watch. See more Bradley H Jun 11 More telemovie than film. The special effects aren’t that special and more Dr Who on a tight budget than Star Wars. Acting is rather awkward and amateurish and feels like you’re sitting through a rehearsal. The plot isn’t bad it’s just poorly executed. Rather Avantgarde on nudity. If it wasn’t for Jenny Agutter, Micheal York and Farrah Fawcett then it would be nothing much at all!
