Critics Consensus

True to its name, Loitering with Intent lingers longer than necessary -- and not with good reason -- as its script crumbles under the weight of mediocrity.

Linda Barnard Toronto Star It all adds up to not much from director by Adam Rapp, although Tomei is effortlessly captivating (as usual) and Rockwell is always worth watching. Rated: 2/4 Mar 12, 2015 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times There's too much loitering and not enough intent. Jan 17, 2015 Full Review Geoff Berkshire Variety Simply the latest in a string of pointless low-budget exercises in angsty Big Apple self-reflection. Jan 17, 2015 Full Review Asia Frey Lagniappe (Mobile, AL) The warmth, energy and intimacy between actors makes the seemingly simple narrative of this film into a memorable experience. Aug 23, 2018 Full Review SF Weekly Staff SF Weekly Adam Rapp's comedy Loitering with Intent is about a number of things, but it might have been better served by being about more about fewer things. Aug 24, 2017 Full Review Jordan Raup The Film Stage The sort of well-meaning, small-scale drama about the creative method that feels too obviously plotted and conventionally scripted to achieve any genuine truths regarding the process. Audience Member I agree with most of the reviews in regards to this film. While watching it, it was fun, but soon afterwards, I wondered what the point is. You're distracted by great performances done by Marisa Tomei and Sam Rockwell, but then you're left with one question. Why? I believe Sam Rockwell to always pull out a solid performance, but the problem was, this movie wasn't even about him. The two main characters, Raphael (Ivan Martin) and Dominic (Michael Godere) are immediately outdone by their co-stars and that's a shame, because I was hoping they'd be just as interesting. Unfortunately, they weren't. Though the movie is supposed to center around these two actors, I was more interested in the love triangle that was plopped right in the middle there. The B story quickly became the A story, and then it ended. For a film that's only about 80 minutes long, do yourself a favor and get to the point. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member A total waste of time...:( Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Love movies with a tight script and great ensemble actors. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member ***Due to the recent RT changes that have basically ruined my past reviews, I am mostly only giving a rating rather than a full review.*** Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
