Reporter Michael Denis (George Murphy), along with his trusty dog, stumbles onto a murder case just before he's set to leave for vacation. A business owner is pronounced missing, and a man with an umbrella is thought to be a suspect. While looking into the case, Denis receives a menacing note and also meets bored society woman Patricia Herrick (Rita Johnson), who wants to assist him. After Denis gets another threatening letter, he attempts to set a trap for the mysterious killer.
