A string of murders have taken place in Washington, D.C., but the officers assigned to the case, Mac (Gene Hackman) and Ellis (Dan Aykroyd), have to deal with their own conflicts first. The grizzled Mac is perpetually annoyed by the undeniably brilliant yet troubled Ellis, who, in times of stress, tends to blackout and adopt the personalities of pop culture icons. And the investigation sure gets stressful, as the cops trace the killings to German politician Von Metz (Robert Prosky), an ex-Nazi.

Steve D This odd couple does not work for one moment. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie. Dan Aykroyd was hysterical, as was Dom DeLuise. Gene Hackman was the perfect straight man. I laughed so hard, my stomach hurt and couldn't get through it until the 3rd try. It came at a time when life was difficult and I really needed a good laugh. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Two D.C. cops (one burnt out, the other completely nuts) are protecting a witness and tracking down a mysterious WW2 home movie with serious present-day consequences. While not awful, this would've benefited more from Aykroyd's comedy routines than trying to be a "serious" action film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review s r Saw it as a kid, I remember it was odd having Hackman play that role. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very funny!! Dan Ackroyd is fantastic! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member ★ (out of four) I like Gene Hackman a lot and Dan Aykroyd has his momemts. Together they deliver a major turkey. It fails on the action and fails on the comedy. The film had possibilities. A politician (Robert Prosky) is running for chancellor of West Germany, but there is a piece of film out there showing him putting Hitler to death. He worries that the film will get out so he orders the deaths of everyone you views it. When the killings hit the Washington, DC area two cops (Hackman and Aykroyd) are called in and they have a very different and very comical way of investigating. Such serious subject matter seems at odds with the comedic elements. The script is awful and not even two pros can save it.
