Audience Member A few steps up from a telenovela, this historical melodrama transports us to a Bolivian silver mining boomtown of the 1920s. A young Bolivian engineer who has been brought up in France comes to make his fortune in the mines. He soon makes friends with a penniless customs official, and they both fall in love with a beautiful Chilean "chola." The complicated plot includes a dangerous new silver vein, a train hold up, a madam with a heart of gold, the Chilean-Bolivian border war, and an avalanche.
