Critics Consensus

Clumsily directed and missing most of the TV series' campy charm, Lost in Space sadly lives down to its title.

Desson Thomson Washington Post A galactic slump of a movie that stuffs its travel bag with special effects but forgets to pack the charm. Sep 17, 2014 Full Review Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal After seeing Lost in Space, my first impulse was to say that it had been made by a bunch of sorcerers' apprentices who didn't know how to tell a story with their high-tech tools. But why give apprenticeship a bad name? Sep 17, 2014 Full Review Jami Bernard New York Daily News The new robot is a disappointment. Instead of the endearingly low-tech fireplug of yore that warned Will Robinson of encroaching danger, the new machine is all bells and whistles and no fun at all. Kinda like the movie itself. Rated: 2/4 Sep 17, 2014 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight The film easily plays on its title, because the acting, plot and many other aspects are truly “Lost in Space.” Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 23, 2022 Full Review Gary Thompson Philadelphia Daily News Lost in Space glides along smoothly on special effects and punchy editing. At about the one-hour mark, however, the movie abandons itself to the noise, chaos and empty spectacle of the new-style Hollywood blockbuster, where story ceases to matter. Rated: C Sep 17, 2014 Full Review Leah Rozen People Magazine These Robinsons should have gone into therapy, not space. Sep 17, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

It's so bad it's hilarious and fun Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Rip O Terrible. Too much weak and predictable special effects/scenes filler and too much background music. They seem to have forgotten about the story line here. Turned it off 30mins into it which was 30mins too long. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Deepest Bluest Suede Darius Dick Stinger Apini Emanuel Grouch Nukem III AKA The Rumble AKA Jennyanyany McPoopface Bridgerton AKA The Count of Monte Fisto This movie makes me wish I was lost in space. Phobe. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Jimmy C I’m 51 years old. This thing came out when I was I don’t even know how old. I think I passed right over it raising kids, and not even giving a crap. I’m sitting here playing XBOX PGA watching this movie going oh my God it’s pretty good. I’ll tell you what it’s got some good actors. Last time I saw a movie like this, I dumped a bunch of popcorn over my head and lit myself on fire. So you know, it’s a good old-fashioned woo hoo. It’s a dump. It’s a fire dump. It’s good. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/26/25 Full Review Joel H Look, I liked Lost in Space back in the day. I’d never seen the TV series, so the movie didn’t annoy or offend me because of everything it changed. However, time has not been kind to this film adaptation. It starts off fine, but then it really lags in the middle and goes pretty far out there in the end. They were also swinging for the fences when it came to computer graphics, but they should have just stayed in the practical effects lane. There will always be a small piece of my heart that likes this version of Lost in Space, but I can’t say it’s a great movie. The Netflix series is the better remake.
