What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Lost World demonstrates how far CG effects have come in the four years since Jurassic Park; unfortunately, it also proves how difficult it can be to put together a truly compelling sequel.

Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel Like the original, the sequel is uneven, sometimes moving in fits and starts. But the new film never really loses its momentum, and its big set pieces deliver. Rated: 5/5 Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Jami Bernard New York Daily News There's not much story or character development here, but you don't need that when you've got dynamite dinosaurs of all stripes and appetites. Rated: 3/4 Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Jay Carr Boston Globe It's sheer claptrap, but it's lively claptrap, with Spielberg skillfully reaching into his bag of shameless tricks to reinvent the chase movie and the cliffhanger. Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Todd Lothery News & Observer (Raleigh, NC) Visually and thematically darker than its precursor, The Lost World is canned entertainment. It lacks the wonder of the first film, perhaps an inevitability. What's more of a letdown is that it lacks the first one's heart. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Sean P. Means Salt Lake Tribune The Lost World: Jurassic Park, like its predecessor, combines gee-whiz effects with old-fashioned shots to the nervous system. Ooh and ahh all you want -- just get ready for the running and screaming. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Linda Cook Quad City Times (Davenport, IA) You literally see these creatures breathe, and the performances are so wonderful that it's hard to believe that the prehistoric brutes really are computer-generated. Will R The Lost World: Jurassic Park doesn’t live up to the first film but is still a very solid sequel. It has more dinosaurs, more action, but more flaws. Let’s start out with the positives. There is some great dinosaur set pieces. All the scenes with the T-Rex are great and the raptor grass scene is intense. There’s also a lot of horrifying scenes that keep the suspense up. I also love the opening it really shows that no one is off limits. It’s not perfect though. There is a lot of characters and it feels like many of them are just there to die. Ian Malcom also feels a lot different than he was in the first one. Still a very solid sequel. 7.5/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review Jay P Better than the first. Because it has more dinos and it's rad. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review Josh C. I love this movie. More dinosaur carnage than the first one, great score, great vfx, this movie rocks. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review BRENDEN J The Lost World Jurassic Park was not that bad, but it is my least favorite in the Jurassic Park series. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/10/25 Full Review Audience Member Super intense very good Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Zezin D I really like this movie, it has a lot of problems but also a lot of good qualities.
