Sheri Linden Los Angeles Times Even though the handsome black-and-white lensing is no substitute for a compelling story, it helps, infusing the skin-deep sketches of emotional enervation with aesthetic energy - for a while. Apr 12, 2013 Full Review Leslie Felperin Variety Lotus Eaters wants desperately to be a portrait of the beautiful and the damned, with its tale of West London rich kids doing drugs and shagging each other, but it's more like a spectacle of the spoiled and annoying. Apr 5, 2013 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times Overflows with underdeveloped characters and plotlines. Apr 5, 2013 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A combination of image, character, and sound suddenly blends nicely together in the second half to become an intoxicating metaphor. Aug 9, 2019 Full Review Perry Seibert TV Guide Sadly, there's a fatalism to the entire narrative that veers into outright melodramatic scolding in the movie's final images. Rated: 2/4 Sep 19, 2014 Full Review Harvey S. Karten Compuserve A lazily directed, flabby look at a group of young, too-rich Londoners whose lives are so miserable you'll be tempted to give up your money and move to an ashram or monastery. Audience Member Awful...if all your characters are vacuous trust fund imbeciles you at least need some writing or a plot to hang them on.It feels like an extended perfume advert or flicking through a tired Harpers and Queen at the dentists. Its hard to imagine an audience for this film, even the want for nothing indulged Chelsea coke set this film portrays would I fear lack the narcissism required. The entire film takes place in a bubble-at no point do any of the characters meet up with anybody outside of their social set-the real world might have added some much needed depth or at least a mirror to reflect or glimpse something other than a perfectly coiffured fringe.Perhaps a documentary would have been a better use of the time and money. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member sexy and challenging Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Bizarre film but extremely visually appealing. Loved the music Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Quite an interesting look at a world that is rather inaccessible to the general population. http://moviebuzzers.com/2011/04/26/tribeca-film-festival-11-lotus-eaters-review/ Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member With fairy-tale like set designs and film shots that appear to have come alive from a high fashion magazine editorial shoot, lotus eaters sucks you into the world of a glamorous yet destructive sensation-seeking group of 20 somethings with too much time on their hands. Saved by its beautiful imagery and black and white filming, this film leaves you with not much to ponder about with characters that are slightly two-dimensional although not quite far-fetched.
