Karen M @KarenMeyerson 1d Valerie Bertinelli's over-acting was a major turn-off. Not every scene called for a shrill delivery of lines to impart the unease of her character's worry. Exaggerated theatrics often smothered what should have played out as naturally building tension. The separate romantic plot fell flat as most fake of all. Not even the most astute of actors can create chemistry where none exists. See more Annie A @AnnieAshe 4d This story sags under the weight of an extra cheesy romance arc and the added artifice of Bertinelli's high-strung affectations, from her nails-on-a-chalkboard vocalizations to her violent overreactions (next time spare the wine goblets and seek anger management). An actress free of hammy showmanship could have imbued deeply visceral emotions into the script's early scenes about Alzheimer's...sadly Bertinelli made the entirety of "Love, Again" unbearable. See more TJ P @TJP2026 May 23 No overacting here. My friends, who have spouses/parents with Alzheimer's/dementia exhibiting the same behaviors (or worse), are struggling, and all of them need a friend to talk to, preferably one who has the same experiences. And this friend may/may not be the same gender. Look at Bruce Willis' wife. I say to people who tend to pass judgment, "Walk a mile in their shoes" and "There by the grace of God go I." Dealing with a spouse or parent who is ill is traumatic at best. I applaud Valerie Bertinelli taking this on. There needs to be far more awareness and understanding of dementia. Yes, it’s incredibly sad and definitely a tear jerker, but any family who has gone through this knows the feeling that you lose that person twice — once through the illness, and then again when they pass away. A very emotional but important film. See more Read all reviews
