Wendy Ide Times (UK) Like many found-footage assemblages, this is superficially rather charming but lacking in a central thesis. The music, however, is gorgeous. Rated: 3/5 Feb 17, 2015 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) The tone is playful and lyrical. Longinotto doesn't resort to voiceovers or interviews. Instead, she uses Richard Hawley's wonderfully dreamy music to bring out the underlying themes. Rated: 4/5 Feb 17, 2015 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) As we watch (and listen), we are swept away on a tide of changing social attitudes to race, gender and sexuality, the singularity of love splintered into kaleidoscopic reflections of desire and devotion. Rated: 4/5 Feb 15, 2015 Full Review Pamela Hutchinson Silent London It's a wisp of a film, maybe, but a wonderful experiment -- a curiously intimate use of public footage, which is bound to trigger your own imagination, and your most cherished memories too. Mar 27, 2020 Full Review Tom Birchenough The Arts Desk Just immerse yourself in Love Is All for its 70 minutes, and it will flow over and around you gloriously. Rated: 4/5 Nov 22, 2017 Full Review Allan Hunter Daily Express (UK) In truth some of the clips are not that remarkable but what really makes them resonant is the dreamy, seductive music of Richard Hawley who adds shades of melancholy and wistfulness to all these moments of lost loves and young dreams. Audience Member A mix of fiction, reportage and documentary from the BFI Archive, soundtracked by Richard Hawley. I was apprehensive that this would be little more than an extended music video. However it does successfully draw you into each montage or mini-story. The films are often striking and the historicity always fascinating.
