Everyone deserves a great love story, but for 17-year-old Simon Spier, it's a little more complicated. He hasn't told his family or friends that he's gay, and he doesn't know the identity of the anonymous classmate that he's fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing.

Critics Consensus

Love, Simon hits its coming-of-age beats more deftly than many entries in this well-traveled genre -- and represents an overdue, if not entirely successful, milestone of inclusion.

Li Sian Goh Bitch Media Love, Simon works because it feels like a love letter to a specific queer internet borne of staying up late, sweaty and paranoid, on the family computer. Mar 5, 2021 Full Review Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader This beguiling romantic comedy offers a fresh take on the familiar premise of a high-schooler trying to fit in. Mar 5, 2020 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times The film is a landmark in LGBTQ representation, but succeeds on its own merits. Rated: 4/5 Apr 13, 2018 Full Review Rolando Gallego EscribiendoCine A film that reinforces its nature by diving into classics from the eighties by John Hughes for some references and transferring them to the present with an effective soundtrack and a healing message... Carney Washington Blade Thanks to director Greg Berlanti and his talented team, Simon gets a great love story and gets to share it with us. Dec 8, 2022 Full Review Michael Cuby them. The best thing Love, Simon did for queer media was pave the way for Love, Victor, its superior spinoff series...nevertheless, the latter wouldn’t exist without the former, and for that, I will always hold a soft spot in my heart for Berlanti’s adaptation. ‎ ‎ It feels like a lot of earlier movies with queer protagonists were very misguided and stereotyped. Love, Simon speaks to its audience a lot better in that area. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Hank T A lot of situations don't come to any form of actual conclusion, making it feel more like a soap opera than a film. As a coming of age story it reasonably portrays the anxiety and confusion that comes with adolescent years, but beyond that there's not a lot of plot. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Audience Member Such a good movie absolutely recommend watching! It’s amazing and I knew it was bram all along. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/02/24 Full Review María A I've heard a lot of people saying this is a "straight people movie", which I find absolutely ridiculous. Growing up as a queer kid in a mostly conservative (not to mention extremely catholic) society was difficult, but, most movies and tv shows were constantly reinforcing the idea that coming out was the worst thing I could do, making me feel stressed and frustated about being a lesbian. In my opinion this is what I like to call a "relief movie". It's just so easy to watch, yet, it has real-life scenarios a lot of people might relate to, and, havind a different end than the dramatic one in every single queer movie, it is just a relief to watch. I'm not saying it's boring or something, after watching this I cried for like, two hours, but it made me feel that, after all, there will always be people supporting and loving me for who I am. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review Teun D Incredible movie. Good story and character development! Definitely recomemnd! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Juan Pablo T A beautiful story of the unique stage of discovering your sexual orientation, Simón has a captivating charisma. However, the ending is too rushed and the situations do not conclude in a solid way. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
