This English film examines the state of social programs in Britain during the 1980s through the case of a mentally challenged man who's thrust into the system. Walter (Ian McKellen) works at a factory and lives with his mother (Barbara Jefford) and father. When his parents suddenly die, Walter is abruptly sent to a mental hospital, where he is mistreated. The hospital experience is a disaster, save for June, another mentally challenged patient, who falls in love with Walter.

Audience Member Altho the idea of a MASH spinoff focusing on Radar's postwar adventures might sound like a hoot to some, it's easy to see why this pilot (wherein Radar is now a city patrolman in St. Louis who romances a soda counter girl and mentors an at-risk youth) never got picked up.
