Noel Murray Los Angeles Times A lot of fledgling filmmakers make autobiographical movies or lean on genre, but "Low Low" follows a different path, empathizing with the worries and woes of some people whose lives are rarely reflected on screen. Aug 16, 2019 Full Review Courtney Howard Variety While the narrative occasionally falters, the visceral way in which Richey captures his subjects provides an unflinching portrait of modern teens on the fringes of society. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Frank Ochieng Flick Feast ...[a] vastly affecting and perceptive coming-of-age youthful feminine fable. One will sure catch a natural high when screening the understated grittiness of the triumphant yet telling Low Low. Rated: 4/5 Oct 1, 2019 Full Review Matt Keay Battle Royale With Cheese Low Low loses steam in the third act, slipping under the heft of the previous hour, selling the emotional weight of its emotional conclusion short. It's a party at which I wouldn't want to stay too long. Sep 20, 2019 Full Review Tim Brennan About Boulder Talented direction, impressive acting, and a perceptive screenplay make Low Low a gritty gem of a film. Sep 15, 2019 Full Review Wade Major FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) [The plot's dilemma] is treated here with seriousness, maturity, insight, and some really, really good performances. Audience Member why is this so underrated? I loved this movie, damn. so real, honest. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I had the good fortune to see this movie over the Labor Day weekend and attend a Q&A with the director after the show. I have no connection to any of the film makers or actors, so this is a review from a regular movie-goer, albeit one who does prefer indy films. If you have a chance to see this movie, either in the theater or through a purchase, it would be well worth your time and money. It is a lovely movie about four good friends in a pivot point between their high school years and what lies beyond. The film deftly explores how hard it is to stay in a hometown and a life, and how hard it can be to leave. In those scenes, I found myself comparing the film favorably to the 2017 film "Columbus" as both explore what it is like for young women to make decisions that remove them from caring for friends and family. What impressed me about "Low Low" was the depiction of how women care for each other and how they express that care through their actions. It is also a beautiful film, at times, to just sit an watch, reminding me of "Tangerine" in its cinematography. It is likely one I will seek out and see again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Honestly the emotion in Low Low was just amazing. One of the best Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing movie. The cast is fantastic, guided by expert direction.
