      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Luckiest Girl Alive means well and Mila Kunis does strong work in the central role, but those positive points are overshadowed by a treatment that risks trivializing its themes.

      Audience Consensus

Luckiest Girl Alive can be uncomfortably intense, but this is a story worth telling -- and Mila Kunis does it justice with an eye-opening dramatic performance.

JDior G Content and performances, dialogue were quite good but flow was heinous. Lulled and dragged on at times, then it seemed like it was over multiple times. Audience has to imagine what could have been. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review courtney b It deviates from the book far too much. Too much left out too many plot holes too many things changed. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Steve S Not much to dislike about this movie. Good pacing, fresh story, and a likeable protagonist. A rich world was created without it feeling clunky and the story played out in a way where you cared more with each scene. This is not a thriller; more like a drama focused around life after tragedy. The fact that critic reviews dislike this film shocks me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review Arya S Mila Kunis carries a believable and well-told story of surviving a traumatic event and how it shapes the future life. Although the poor critics' reviews no doubt stem from the all too pat ending that puts the film clearly into the "me too" genre of stories, it is slickly produced and ultimately satisfying and cathartic. Worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review Cathrine A I felt really lucky when this movie was over…. I appreciate the story and message, however, the delivery from Tiffany the main character was so weak. I felt a lot of frustration and anger waiting for her to do something Besides apologise to her rapists and be so nice and sweet to one of them even picking up something up for him that he dropped on the floor. What the F??? When you have been that brutally attacked, the last thing you are, is that sweet and nice, especially when you have been bottling up all the feelings for over 20 years. Tiffany was able to tell someone at the end of the film to F off, and I found it strange that that was the only five seconds in the movie where she showed some strength and rebellion. Yes, she wrote an article about her experience, but she was just so happy about the whole process. It just didn't connect or seem real. As a victim of sexual abuse, I can tell you that I understand the control that the abuser has and the power, but after Time, all the anger and frustration boils down to striking out, not being sweet and certainly not apologetic. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Leslie Ann B Anyone who has been through such a trauma would find this a very powerful and intense film, truly portraying what it's like to be victimized. It was deeply moving yet very disturbing. Mila Kunis gave an extremely compelling performance. I never realized how talented she is as a dramatic actress. Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune The issues here couldn’t be more pertinent. But Knoll’s thriller is a sleek but pretty crude example of processing PTSD for Netflix and chilling... Rated: 2/4 Oct 11, 2022 Full Review Richard Lawson Vanity Fair Luckiest Girl Alive keeps telling us that we are watching a biting depiction of sublimated grief and rage, but the movie bounces along at such a weird pace that nothing can sink in or register as more than garish, tossed-off plot detail. Oct 10, 2022 Full Review Todd McCarthy Deadline Hollywood Daily As formulaic as it is, the story nonetheless confronts the persistence of guilt over past questionable behavior and how people struggle to deal with it, even long after the fact. Oct 8, 2022 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu Skilfully adapted for the screen from her 2015 novel of the same name, Jessica Knoll has brought contemporary concerns alive in a harrowingly thrilling film. Oct 4, 2023 Full Review Michael Cook KARK-TV This movie just doesn't quite work...It felt like a very fashionable Hallmark movie. Rated: 6.5 Aug 10, 2023 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome Luckiest Girl Alive is able to tie everything up with a neat bow at the end because nothing was ever unpacked to begin with. This latest Netflix Original is sensationalized trauma packaged neatly for the true-crime-obsessed crowd. Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
