The discursive nature of the Surrealist parlor game exquisite corpse mirrors the way that power flows in Francesco Rosi's films. Go to Full Review

Francesco Rosi's brilliantly staged and photographed portrait of the infamous Mob boss, played with brass-knuckles ingratiation by Gian-Maria Volonte. Go to Full Review

It's also quite an enjoyable film, in large part thanks to Gian Maria Volontè's charismatic, understated performance as Charles "Lucky" Luciano and Rosi's deft direction. Go to Full Review

ashley h @ashleyhobgood87 06/08/2017 Lucky Luciano is a decent film. It is about the Mafia boss Lucky Luciano, covering his life from 1946 to 1962. Gian Volonte and Vincent Gardenia give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Francesco Rosi did an alright job directing this movie. I liked watching this motion picture because of the drama. See more 05/10/2013 This film works best when Rosi sticks to his well known gritty thriller drama style, as it loses a lot of its energy with its stints in melodramatic territory. The story itself is a little weak, particularly in its final part. See more 02/06/2013 good gangster/bio-pic. See more 04/27/2011 Director Francesco Rosi returns to his recurring theme of the connections between legal and illegal exercises of power... in this sensationalized account of the infamous gangster Charles Lucky Luciano (Gian Maria Volonte). The film examines the life of Luciano after serving nine years of his 50-year sentence in the 1930s and 1940s, after which he was pardoned and deported to Italy. Once back in Italy, Luciano travels to Naples, where he finds himself under a continuous ten-year investigation by narcotics investigator Charles Siragusa (who plays himself). Rosi uses Luciano as a clinical study, questioning his legendary status and exploring the truth behind the legend.~ Paul Brenner, See more 11/22/2010 Oh dear a potentialy intersting premise ruined by some terrible dubbing and a plot which cant really focus on its subject. Francesco Rosi has made some interesting films but this film becomes so boring that you really wonder what the point of the whole exercise was. Volonte makes a great Luciano but other actors feel shoe horned in most noatbly Rod Steiger as a low level mobster and Edmond O Brien who gives a speech and then dissapears into the muddy narrative. There are some moments of excitement at the start but by the end i was throughly confused and annoyed that an idea has been so badly squandered as it has been here. A shame then but the film deserves concrete boots all they way down the line , A mess See more 10/14/2008 This film was creative and riveting, the story is as the characters portray themselves, direction of the film is done well and the cinematography was beautiful, scrip tin the film was very well done and suited the direction of the film, all up a great film.
