M Suganth The Times of India ...an ending that doesn't leave you on a high that the initial moments promised. Rated: 3/5 Jan 13, 2021 Full Review Saibal Chatterjee NDTV Pretty images, commendable performances and seductive ideas about love and loss abound. The Tamil film, however, has little ingrained glue to hold its surfeit of sensory riches together. Audience Member Maara - 8/10. Charlie, the hit Malayalam film that helped propel Dulquer Salmaan into stardom, gets remade in Tamil as Maara. This lovely #nonlinear film tells the story of a young restoration worker (Shraddha Srinath in a wonderfully light performance) who goes searching for an artist named Maara (Madhavan in a lighthearted performance) who has painted murals of a story she heard when she was a kid. This leads her on a journey of meeting many interesting characters who have had their lives changed thanks to Maara. Through multiple storylines, we see the power of second chances and fate, and how it can help lead towards a better life. Debut director Dhillip Kumar does a great job in adapting the story into tamil, and creating a film that might be confusing at the start, but really works well as the story keeps unfolding. The performances are light and easy, as well as the cinematography and music, excellently done by Ghibran. Its a heartwarming tale that really makes you appreciate what life means to different people, and how experiencing the different aspects and regions the world has to offer makes life even better. If the film was a little more focused in the beginning the film would have been even better, but it really lands its footing with the touching ending, featuring a really endearing performance from Mouli. A good film! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This beautiful movie is a stroke of genius. The videography is truly moving, just extraordinary. Its emotional story is, at times, lighthearted, but overall, delightfully satisfying. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
