William D As in Kid Auto Races at Venice there really is not much of a plot, just one more stop along the evolution of Chaplin's Tramp. The look is here, but he still has a way to go in the development of the character. Here the Tramp is an obnoxious, girl chasing drunk. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Great performances and really fun to watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This is, in fact, Chaplin's first appearance as The Tramp. (Kid Auto Races was released first, so that was the public's first introduction). Though it lacks much substance, it's worth the 5 stars simply for the fact that it's important in the grand scheme of things. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The tramp comes across as a bit of a drunken perv in this one, I didn't like it. It's also more a vehicle for Mabel Normand than Chaplin, which is unusual given how much input he would have in many of his later films. This is the first film he dressed up as the tramp (although it was released after Kid Auto Races at Venice) but he doesn't get too much of a look-in. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A very crude and messy short, but hard to disrespect, as this is the Tramp's first actual film (Kid Races was more like a home movie than a film). You can almost see the full potential of the little fellow erupting out of his character and it's an honor to behold. Too bad it's vehicle is so boring, unfunny, and confusing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Chaplin's third film appearance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
