Emanuel Levy Variety Lombardo's take is a variation of a familiar idea that Cukor used in Double Life: Actors get so sbsorbed in their roles they can't separate between their professional and personal lives; this film recounts a modern, NY version of Shakespeare's play. Revy's E Harold Perrineau and John Glover steal the show in this interesting modernization of Macbeth. She got word that I love Macbeth, which she's going over in class right now. The kids are writing their own short version of the play to present at the school's Shakespeare Festival in two weeks. I decided to talk about different interpretations of the material, so I brought in Throne of Blood and Roman Polanski's 1971 film. I showed scenes from each and discussed the differences between them and what the kids possibly were seeing in their own minds. I also talked briefly about the play's ambiguities, and even some of the whackier adaptations like Scotland PA, a small Christopher Walken movie in which the Macbeth storyline goes down in a fast food restaurant. The teacher loved me! She said that I even taught her some things, which made me feel really great about my performance. In unrelated news, the other night I was supposed to pick up my sister from dance. Somehow this got muddled in my brain and I thought I was supposed to get her from school. So she sat out in what Florida considers cold (which, I hate to admit, is starting to feel chilly to me) for an hour waiting for me before I figured things out. I felt so bad. Also, T-Mobile has changed their voicemail service. Its much better, but there are multiple ways to access it. I've found that only one way (dialing 123) works for me, the other two (dialing your own number or holding the one key) call either Caroline or Chase, neither of whom I know. Chase got used to it though, and by the third time in the day that I called he said "Hey what's up Tom?" Nice guy! Hope you enjoyed my personal entry of the mini-epoch!
