Critics Consensus

Dazzlingly colorful and frenetic, Madagascar 3 is silly enough for young kids, but boasts enough surprising smarts to engage parents along the way.

Here is a family movie from which absolutely nothing is expected, and yet it's one of the week's best releases: a muscular, potent and very funny film. Go to Full Review

Madagascar 3 isn't an emotional ride the way Pixar's films tend towards, but it's relentlessly goofy fun. Good for some laughs, I say take a small person and see what happens. Go to Full Review

Chris 06/02/2021 My granddaughter liked the movie. She just turned 8. See more John K @UndeadKingUK 5d Best of the franchise, I mean it! The new characters are amazing, the villain is simply the best antagonist of the film because of how terrifying and threatening she was and the film had an epic conclusion to the franchise. I understand the story can be easily compared to Open Season 3, but unlike that film at least Madagascar 3's circus storyline didn't feel forced in any way. I’ve read that DreamWorks originally had an unrelated circus-themed story in development during the 2000s, which was about a bear who runs away to join the circus. However, the film never saw the light of day due to production issues, but if this was the unrelated story converted into Madagascar 3, then I think it works either way. And who can't forget Afro Circus, GENIUS!!! This is how the franchise should have ended… I repeat, "Should have." But some idiot from DreamWorks thought otherwise and decided to make Penguins of Madagascar [Or what I'd call Madagascar 4.] See more Comedy F Oct 29 Pretty good so far but not all that better than the og to be honest See more thiago s @Thiagostone Oct 29 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajudou a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom. See more Jackson W Sep 11 Decent movie. I don't think it's as good as the first but it is as good as the 2nd. I wish some other characters were more involved but there are also so many characters at the same time. See more Blu B Sep 5 A Classic of the franchise. It's VERY close between this and the first one for best one. It's so hard to pick. The first probably has the best humor of all of them but this is just as funny as the last one. It also fully commits to the stupidity and over the top feel of the franchise. This one is more of a comedy adventure. This one probably has the best animation of the three also and it's really good. The chase scene Monte Carlo and the neon show look really good and are very creative and ridiculous. The voice acting is really good here too. It's quite an All star cast. The villian is really good, over the top, and just pure evil basically. Everything else is solid. It does bounce around a bit with the unneeded romantic subplots and it has trouble tying in the villian hunting them down which can feel like a seperate story. But it's fun, probably the most creative of the three, the most well executed from a technical perspective, and a very satisfying ending. Not much in the way of individual character development like the last one tried outside of Alex once again and the dumb romance subplot. But it does keep the gang together better in this (not as well as the first though) and gives the group an arc overall. No deep message here just dumb over the top fun and it succeeds even better than the last one did. Anyone who is a fan of the franchise, any voice actors in this, the director, or family comedy animated movies should check this out. Great way to close out an overall solid trilogy.
