      Critics Consensus

Madame's retrograde trappings are further weighted down by unlikable characters and an overall inability to do justice to its themes.

Paul G It was pretty good Al the way through kept u thinking like wow it's a good story here and like whats Cassie gonna c next have to watch it to find out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Audience Member Entertaining movie with hints on class, snobbery and hypocrisy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/22 Full Review Audience Member It's an interesting, modern take on Cinderella, with todays social commentaries. The story suffered from severe schizophrenia with unfinished characters, unnecessary scenes and subplots that never seem to cohesively come together. I did enjoyed Rosy De Palma performance and the ending of the film, it had a harsh, refreshing truthfulness that you rarely see in movies. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Worst movie I have seen in a long time. Not only are the characters wretched people, but the one character who was a good person didn't deserve what was coming to her. Just awful...... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review tom m Reasonably entertaining, but a bit below the standards for Collette & Keitel. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Though there were some good things about this film, overall I found the characterizations to make no sense. There was no chemistry among the cast and many pointless scenes that did nothing to contribute to the narrative. When all was revealed, there was no release of dramatic tension, as if they were talking about the weather instead of a big deception. I enjoyed the performance of Rossy de Palma as Maria but it wasn't enough to save this movie. Even Toni Collette seemed awkward, like she couldn't quite figure out her character based on this writing. Overall just a dud of a film. J. R. Jones Chicago Reader [Rossy de Palma] brings her heroic profile and bubbly personality to this pleasant social satire by French writer-director Amanda Sthers. Mar 25, 2020 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Yet it's ultimately hamstrung because all the characters, bar the wonkily charismatic Maria, are absolutely frightful. Rated: 2/5 Jul 20, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's weirdly dated, and the Pygmalion plot device and metropolitan sexiness make it look like a movie that could have come out in the mid-60s. Rated: 2/5 Jul 19, 2018 Full Review William Venegas La Nación (Costa Rica) Without being an excellent film, I recommend this new story. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Jul 29, 2019 Full Review Katrina Olson katrinaolson.ca The dinner party scene had me laughing out loud the entire time! Who doesn't love a dinner party guest who's humor goes rogue!?! Rated: 6.5/10 Oct 30, 2018 Full Review Kathy Bell The Sun (UK) The script tries to be funny but simply falls flat. And the premise the tale is built on is somewhat bizarre. Rated: 2/5 Sep 14, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
