A steady and prestigious stream of acting assignments followed, including recurring roles on the the hospital series drama "Casualty 1909" (BBC 2009) and college-set mystery series "Trinity" (ITV 2009), and the theatrical comedy-drama "Cemetery Junction" (2010), co-directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Yet it was in 2014 that Hughes first achieved real acclaim and international attention, with his prominent role in the spy drama series "The Game" (BBC 2014- ). Created by Toby Whithouse and set in the early 1970s, the series cast veteran actor Brian Cox as Daddy, an MI5 director who sets up a task force to investigate the presence of a covert Soviet plot christened Operation Glass.
