Tom Hughes
British thespian Tom Hughes initially became a professional actor in the late 2000s and spent the first several years of his career placing his strongest emphasis on English series television. Born in 1985, in Chester, Cheshire, England, Hughes attended the nearby Upton-by-Chester High School. Meanwhile, he performed with the Jigsaw Music Theatre Company and the Cheshire Youth Theatre, and played guitar with the indie rock band Quaintways. Following secondary school graduation, Hughes enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating with a bachelor's in acting in 2008. A steady and prestigious stream of acting assignments followed, including recurring roles on the the hospital series drama "Casualty 1909" (BBC 2009) and college-set mystery series "Trinity" (ITV 2009), and the theatrical comedy-drama "Cemetery Junction" (2010), co-directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Hughes then portrayed pupil Nick Slade in Season One of the BBC legal drama "Silk" (2011) and essayed supporting turns in the UK telemovies "Richard II" (2012) and "The Lady Vanishes" (2013). Yet it was in 2014 that Hughes first achieved real acclaim and international attention, with his prominent role in the spy drama series "The Game" (BBC 2014- ). Created by Toby Whithouse and set in the early 1970s, the series cast veteran actor Brian Cox as Daddy, an MI5 director who sets up a task force to investigate the presence of a covert Soviet plot christened Operation Glass. Hughes portrayed Joe Lambe, an interrogator whose apparent demeanor masks a radically different persona.
