      Audience Consensus

Maestro's Oscar-worthy acting and impressive cinematography keep things engaging despite a flawed narrative that won't teach viewers much about Bernstein's cultural impact.

Spencer Nielsen One of the most try-hard movies I’ve seen in a long time. Bradley Cooper puts so much effort into becoming Bernstein, and being the maestro of his production, that he forgets to tell a story, with characters, that is about something. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Robin We enjoyed the movie but felt we needed more information about Bernsteins life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Robert C Too much of his personal life and not enough of his musical experiences. Also, the presentation was "choppy". Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/02/24 Full Review FaribaKB Loved the acting, story and the music! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Sylvia Boyd Acting, Acting, Acting. Both lead characters gave Academy Award performances. Director Cooper deserves the same for an amazing first effort directing. Sergio Burstein Los Angeles Times Maestro is a work that celebrates and admires Berstein. [Full review in Spanish] Dec 28, 2023 Full Review Kyle Smith Wall Street Journal [Bradley Cooper's] mimicry eventually becomes overbearing. If an actor is working so hard that all the audience can focus on is the work, rather than the character, it’s self-defeating. Dec 21, 2023 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News Maestro comes alive as Cooper, who also co-wrote the screenplay, filters Bernstein's passion for life and all its grand indulgences into an intensely physical performance, which peaks in a sweat-drenched conducting sequence that bursts off the screen. Rated: A Dec 20, 2023 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views If you start watching “Maestro” to revel in the unintended camp and over the topness, you can start to have fun. Let the old man go clubbing! Cooper’s voice in the second half and outfits send me over the moon Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Michael A. Smith MediaMikes On a positive note, the performances are excellent. Cooper channels Bernstein down to his voice patterns. Mulligan carries most of the emotional baggage of the film and never delivers a false note. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 24, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy One of 2023's 20 best films.
