Fake it 'til you make it. The latest gem from Amalia Ulman (El Planeta), MAGIC FARM takes us on a kaleidoscopic journey packed with twists and turns, cross-cultural encounters and true personalities. When a misguided American documentary crew in search of their next viral segment ends up in the wrong town in rural Argentina, chaos ensues. As they collaborate with locals to fake a new music trend, unexpected relationships form and an unfolding health crisis becomes apparent. Colorful and unfiltered, MAGIC FARM is led by a stellar ensemble including Chloë Sevigny, Alex Wolff and Simon Rex. Shot through with a vivid sense of place, this Berlinale and Sundance selection combines a surreal send-up of the media with a heartfelt exploration of humanity.

Linda Marric The Sun (UK) Its attempt at absurdity rarely lands, leaving behind a project more self-indulgent than insightful. Rated: 2/5 May 16, 2025 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Burke Battelle’s whimsical score amplifies the offbeat charm, but the comedic tone is ill met by tonal inconsistencies, flat punchlines and a wilful lack of momentum. Cross-cultural satire lurks unassertively in the margins. Rated: 3/5 May 15, 2025 Full Review Emily Maskell Little White Lies Magic Farm may not be a blanket crowd pleaser, but Ulman’s smart writing lands in a deeply optimistic place about the pure magic of human connection. May 15, 2025 Full Review Valerie Kalfrin AWFJ.org [MAGIC FARM has] more going on in the background than its myopic main characters or the film cares to explore ... promising elements, but the overall concoction needs more magic. May 28, 2025 Full Review James Saynor The Arts Desk Magic Farm, though, has too much of a purely aimless, centrifugal feel, as if it’s one long trailer in search of a movie. People wander in and out to express random emotions that seem disconnected from clear motivation or story point. Rated: 3/5 May 16, 2025 Full Review Joe Friar Fort Worth Report Good performances and funny scenes outweigh the lack of structure. It may be too offbeat for mainstream audiences, but I kind of loved it. Rated: 3/4 May 16, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Sue Good acting, wonderful scenery, movie a bit muddled Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/18/25 Full Review WPR A satire that turns romantic but never sentimental the dialogue is quotable, and Alex Wolff is hilarious. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/25 Full Review Jackson H I get the point they are making with this one which is with the influx of short form documentaries most are done to find “odd” things that can be exploited for viral fame rather than any real investigative documentary work to bring light and help real issues. I got that point quickly in watching this and think it’s an important one to make. A documentary about the poison in the fields is much more important than a made up ribbon head dance video. Nevertheless they seem to not even realize the real world issue in their quest to stick to their original silly plan. The issue with this film is they made the point, had weird dialogue and scenes, then made the point again but without really making it effective. This could have been 20 minutes and had the same results. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/30/25 Full Review Sara Magic Farm is totally unhinged in the best way— Its messy, chaotic, and weirdly brilliant. Amalia Ulman mixes satire, lo-fi aesthetics, and deadpan humor into something that feels both homemade and razor-sharp. Chlo Sevigny and Simon Rex are hilarious as clueless outsiders, but the real standout is Camila del Campo, the girl with the birthmark. Shes like a femme fatale, totally sure of herself, and its amazing to see how she owns every scene she's in. Also, the little guy (youll know him when you see him) gives a surprisingly touching performance that adds heart to all the absurdity. You never really know where the story is going, but thats part of the fun. If youre into strange, smart, and fearless films, Magic Farm is unforgettable. Im still thinking about it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review David S Not much plot. Quirky but not really in a good way. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review joel g Wow, what a terrible movie. there were 30 audience members in the theater when the movie started, and by the one hour mark, more than 50% walked out..Like one reviewer said, Its a mind numbing experience because the plot is so, slow slow with no pay off..
