Magic Magic finds writer-director Sebastián Silva in familiar risk-taking form, ably abetted by Juno Temple and a smartly assembled ensemble cast.

Constance G Hidden gem. This movie is fantastic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review Mick V Symbolism occurs in many ways through this spooky tale of four people spelling on a victim Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Alicia is symbolized by the abandoned puppy. Judging by the whimpering in the truck at the end. Does she live or die. The pills she quit taking and the magic of Chile push her over the edge as did her peers in the film. Lots of symbolism. Sort of a Shamanic tale, Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Juno Temple is one of those actresses that quietly carries a movie. She had a range of emotions to work with. It's a little tale about being surrounded by toxic relationships and the effects—good acting for some caustic personalities. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Magic Magic is a touch and go psychological thriller. Most of the plot may be difficult for most viewers to decipher due to its extreme subtlety. As the audience we are constantly debating whether we are looking at reality or what Alicia perceives as reality. There are so many things left unsaid that is never made clear. Why did Sara leave? What caused Alicia's mental state? And what on earth happened at the end? There are evidently underlying mental health issues with Alicia, some scenes lead us to believe that she suffers with trauma from past abuse. Juno Temple is very expressional and portrayed her characters inner torment perfectly. Alicia is clearly possessed by the demons in her mind. Regarding Sara there is evidence to support that she had an abortion or some sort of operation as she is seen bleeding from below in one scene. As for the ending, Sebastian Silva seemed to have lost interest in finishing the movie which leaves us with an ending that's super incomplete. If you're not into psychological thrillers then it probably won't engage you in the slightest. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved all the actors in it. Tara Brady Irish Times Magic Magic's odd denouement is a dramatic curveball that smacks the viewer square in the face. Rated: 4/5 Apr 21, 2014 Full Review Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) A shapeless mess. Rated: 2/5 Apr 20, 2014 Full Review Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard Silva, like all good film-makers, is a magician. But thanks to the last-minute fumbling, we're left with a broken spell. Rated: 3/5 Apr 18, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Its spell will stay with you, creepy crawling down your spine. Aug 7, 2019 Full Review Tom Watson CineVue With every intention to be a tale of cerebral turmoil, this endless slew of catechisms is less of a high-brow assessment of the psyche and more of a monobrowed headache. Driving this sallow snore, however, is a score of budding talent. Rated: 2/5 Mar 20, 2019 Full Review Deirdre Crimmins Film Thrills Magic Magic is a complex film. While not much happens in the plot, it is clear that the film has a lot to say. Aug 21, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
