An engaging study of a beautiful but mysterious mind, which also reveals the stressful nature of world-class chess tournaments and raises the deep question of where intelligence actually comes from. Go to Full Review

The loneliness of the long-distance chess grandmaster is affectingly conveyed in "Magnus," an intimate portrait of the game's reigning champ, 25-year-old Magnus Carlsen. Go to Full Review

Petar M @PetarMXTC Jan 13 An excellent film that highlights the importance of discipline in achieving life’s goals, keeping me fully engaged from start to finish. See more Øyvind A 12/03/2022 I loved it. very well made and the most interesting parts was the unique footage fro his childhood. See more 12/26/2020 I loved it- was totally engaged for the entire film. A well-done, in fact outstanding documentary about a chess prodigy. Since The Queen's Gambit, which is an extraordinary series, I've re-watched Searching for Bobby Fischer, Bobby Fischer Against the World, Queen of Katwe. I'm fascinated by comparing these 3 chess prodigies - Bobby Fischer, Josh Waitzkin, (Searching...based on a book written by his father) & Magnus Carlsen & how they lived their daily lives. It appears, at least how they're portrayed, that JW & MC have relatively normal lives which dramatically sets them apart from Fischer. See more 03/29/2017 A great movie about a marvellous mind! See more 01/25/2017 I think you have to be a chess fan to really appreciate this movie. But even otherwise you have to admit Magnus Carlsen such a brilliant mind that it makes him such an interesting person. He is a great ambassador and spokesperson for chess, especially for kids and teens as he is in his twenties and is the best player in the world. A well done documentary, very interesting! See more 12/21/2016 In the end it reminds me of the scene in matrix when Neo sees and understands the matrix fully for the first time. The possibilities of the human brain seem to be almost endless and computers cannot understand or compete against human intuition when it is balanced with huge intelligence. It gives you hope that the human brain might just contain something so important we simply cannot understand it yet but we understand it more than computers do or maybe ever will. I absolutely loved watching this film based solely around Magness and his family See more Read all reviews
