This surprised me, I don't know why because Daisy Ridley is amazing and I should have known anything attached to her would be nothing less that great. Magpie is definitely a slow burn but the payoff is very much worth it. This film does such a great job in the quiet moments which is a fresh take on the psychological horror genre. If you are looking for a movie to rent or watch I recommend you check Magpie out!

Daisy Ridley shows more of her dramatic skills this time in a psychological thriller directed by Sam Yates Here she plays Anette, married with a husband and has two kids Their life starts to unravel when their daughter lands an audition next to a higher profile actress Anette starts to have suspicions about her husband’s obsession with her almost driving her to the point of paranoia and neurotic behavior Is this all in her head or is she being too overbearing? Lots of this delivers the super uncomfortability of a woman slowly losing her cool and letting her insecurities take hold So much she starts to take measures into her own hands Freaky music, lots of extreme closeups, and a dark eerie mood It’s not a happy go lucky viewing and it gets very brooding at times being a bit frustrating But it does show who is the real victim in a marriage when it comes to adultery or feeling trapped in a toxic relationship

A worthy submission in the Good For Her™ genre from the mind of Daisy Ridley! Daisy smashes this creepy performance as forsaken Anette and the insane twist at the end blew my mind. Hiba Ahmed and Shazad Latif were also brilliant in their roles, especially for Hiba's first major role. Daisy and writer Tom Bateman are turning out to be a powerhouse couple and I can't wait to see what else they come out with.
