There’s really nothing to see here, just another synthetic simulation of a film and a genre we used to love, less maintenance required and more complete overhaul. Go to Full Review

Come for the rom com, but stick around for Petsch, O’Brian and Bailey, a fun trio that turns out to be the only essential tools Maintenance Required to be an entertaining movie. Go to Full Review

The wan and charmless Maintenance Required stalls out before it even gets out of its parking spot, he said, kicking the jack out from under the car so it falls on him, crushing his skull. Go to Full Review

Ultimately the title says it all. Maintenance was required, but not performed. Perhaps next time if you are going to check out the Shop Around The corner, just watch the classic this film has dumbed down for Gen Z. Go to Full Review

More contrived than endearing, this millennial romantic comedy offers only the slightest variation on well-worn genre tropes. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Nov 30 Maintenance Required is one of those films I expected to be completely unwatchable, especially after seeing both critics and general audiences label it a disaster. To my surprise, the movie turned out far better than its reputation suggests. It’s imperfect, undeniably cheesy, and occasionally stumbles into eye-rolling territory—but it also has a warmth and charm that makes it far more enjoyable than anticipated. The film embraces a lighthearted tone, leaning into corny humor and familiar romantic tropes, yet it maintains enough creativity to feel distinct. There are definitely plot holes and moments that don’t quite land the way they should, but the narrative still finds a way to remain entertaining. Even when the screenplay falters, the movie’s sense of fun keeps the story moving. What works best in Maintenance Required is the dynamic between small business and big business—an underdog mechanic shop fighting to stay afloat while corporate pressure looms overhead. Layered on top of that is a romance that begins with conflict and slowly softens into affection. While it echoes the classic "enemies to lovers" framework often found in Hallmark-style storytelling, the mechanic-shop angle gives it a playful twist that helps it stand out. The chemistry between the leads carries much of the film’s emotional weight. Their banter, frustrations, and reluctant bonding feel cozy and familiar, even when the writing feels predictable. You can tell the actors are having fun with the material, and that energy translates well on screen. It’s the kind of romantic setup that reminds you why this formula has endured for decades. Though the movie never tries to be groundbreaking, it succeeds in delivering exactly what it promises: an easy, comforting, simple watch. The direction keeps things light and breezy, and the pacing ensures there are almost no slow patches. Even when the story takes its more absurd turns, the film manages to stay approachable and pleasant. Overall, Maintenance Required isn’t a great film, but it is undeniably cute, charming, and far more enjoyable than expected. It’s the type of movie that won’t leave a lasting impression, but will absolutely entertain you for a cozy night in. Sometimes that’s all you really need—and for what it sets out to be, it accomplishes its goal with surprising success. See more Whit R Nov 28 This was a cute rom com! It's an updated variation of "You've Got Mail" and "The Shop Around the Corner" and I was glad to see they paid homage to those two films in this one. See more Marco L @decatur555 Nov 23 (CASTELLANO) A ver… hay pelis malas, y luego está Se requiere mantenimiento. Nada. (ENGLISH) Let’s be honest… there are bad movies, and then there’s Maintenance Required. It’s not funny, it’s not moving, and it disappears from your mind before you even have time to get annoyed. It promised to be different, but nope. Same old story. Flat characters, recycled lines, elevator music… everything feels the same. Ten minutes in and you’re already checking your phone — or thinking about dinner. Madelaine Petsch and Jacob Scipio try, they really do, but there’s just no way to save it. No soul, no rhythm, no spark. Nothing. It feels like a rom-com made with a template — the kind someone writes on autopilot: "throw in two attractive leads, a misunderstanding, a kiss at the end, roll credits." And that’s exactly what it is. Lacey Uhlemeyer’s direction doesn’t help either. No tone, no charm, no energy. The jokes don’t land, the romantic bits fall flat, and when the film tries to be serious, it’s just awkward. Everything looks rushed, careless — like someone said, "whatever, it’s done, just upload it." The only thing worth saving — and by far — is the song This Is the Day by The The. It plays twice, and for a moment you feel like you’re watching another movie. It’s got soul, it’s got life. Which makes it hurt even more, because it reminds you of what this story never manages to have. And in the end… nothing. You’re the same as when you started, just more tired. Maybe even emptier. It leaves nothing, teaches nothing, provokes nothing. Some movies should just stay locked away and be forgotten. Honestly, this one should’ve never left the drawer. They didnt even use or pay respect to the best part which is the male lead putting in the effort to win over the female lead AFTER he realizes its his nemesis. WTF!? Lost opportunity! The actresses are great in previous roles, but this movie didn't do their talent any justice. I had high hopes for this movie and ended up bored beyond my mind. The only character I found remotely entertaining is the plant lover friend. Other than that, no chemistry between the lead and supporting actors. Such a long and awkward movie.
