spencer p It has potential with comedy and character, but it turns out to be a socially shocking tragedy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A film packed as tight with characters as the city of the film is with people. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one of the great Shanghai films of the Thirties. It's a very political film in the form of a comedy and a musical. I found the techniques used in this film to be very interesting, as it is a sound film but it could almost work as a silent film. The two original songs in the film are great and serve as a good critique of capitalism. I was thoroughly entertained with this film, and that's what keeps it from merely being a propaganda film, it is genuinely entertaining film that anyone should see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A very good example of the Chinese cinema in the 1930s Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
