Audience Member From legendary Hong Kong martial arts director Cheh Chang comes this interesting semi-modern martial arts action flick. There are cars and characters dressed like greasers, but the movie still appears to have been filmed on the Shaw Brothers backlot set better suited for period marital arts films. The film seems trapped in some kind of alternate universe time warp, but maybe that's just my western perspective and it's not really as bizarre as it appeared to me. In any case, it gave the film a "Streets of Fire" type of feel of mixed up eras. The story is fairly straight forward, Chen Kuan Tai, who I'm not all that familiar with, but who is great and a very charismatic leather jacketed hero, plays a gambler who's offended the son of the local crime boss. Many fights ensure. The two standout fights for me are an early one in the film involving a bike chain and the film's climactic fight scene where he takes on the crime boss' army of henchmen. Like most Cheh Chang films, the fights seem edgier and more violent, which worked well for the film's odd greaser street brawling setting. My only complaints are that there weren't enough fight scenes and that the story was not terribly interesting, but the overall, the film is excellent and may be one of my new favorites of Chang's.
