Synopsis
In 1937, to commemorate the centennial of a historic peace agreement signed by the native tribes of New Zealand and the British Crown, Maori queen Te Arikuni calls for seven ocean-faring ships to be built using traditional methods. Decades later, in the late 1980s, filmmaker Merata Mita -- with the permission of the queen's descendants -- painstakingly presents restored footage of the event shot in the late 1930s, adding a soundtrack of traditional Maori music.
