Avindu G Great collective performances of the Mandrake's cast sets the movie's standard high. Great dialogues not even the slightest overdoing. It's a unique story with an equally unique northern Irish setup. The remoteness and it's culture is fitting very well with the damp gloomy woods of witches. Cinematography is excellent intensifying the this folk horror story. Great visuals rich with the cold misty colour of the surroundings. Mandrake is a story involving a infamous criminal out of prison and a demon figure roaming marshland so that's a pretty good mix and it's all about people who become naive due to great expectations. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/14/23 Full Review Yasmin W Loved it! Great story and amazing director Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/06/23 Full Review Hugo S A probation officer is given the task of rehabilitating a murderer. The interaction between both women gets confrontational after the dissapearence of two children. "Mandrake" is a crime drama that relies on Irish folkclore to embody an element of horror. The second half is particularly dark and wicked! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Jacob W Plot was jumping around and impossible to follow. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review thom g Mandrake defies expectations enough to help maintain attention, leaves enough unanswered mysteries to keep one thinking actively, and has enough creepiness to make it a decent horror film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member So amazingly effective - it was like visiting the lair of pure evil. Only the Irish have the necessary wizardry to bring such a story to vivid throbbing life - to the extent that we feel we're witnessing pure, incarnate evil revealing itself to us, sly and full of nuanced surprises as well as conspicuous ones. And now we begin to understand that this level of wickedness will not be defeated by mere mortals. The slow transition of the story, from ordinary every day life being lived by ordinary every day characters, to a terrible but not unusual crime which is also, unfortunately, not a departure from the ordinary. But now a hint of of vileness is making an appearance on the scene, a glimpse into the environs of pure evil that was lurking behind the veil of that 'ordinary' crime. And once this evil has taken center stage, the rafters are filled with it as it flourishes like hell's version of some infernal springtime. The experience was more than just sitting comfortably watching a movie as something contained therein grew to monstrous proportions and spread beyond the confines of the screen. Five stars isn't enough for the Irish with their roots in magic and lore and their poetic virtuosity. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Noel Murray Los Angeles Times A fairly cerebral genre hybrid that still connects on a gut level. Nov 11, 2022 Full Review Eve Tushnet Patheos By the end I was on board, and could see how the mandrake fits the movie’s themes of bloody birth, something broken and desperate and amoral within maternity, but I’m circling around ways of saying, “This didn’t quite work for me, and I’m not sure why.” Dec 16, 2022 Full Review Hasitha Fernando Flickering Myth An atmospheric chiller par excellence, Mandrake is an engrossing horror drama propelled by commendable performances that delivers on the goods. Dec 16, 2022 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Disturbing indie Irish folk horror pic. Rated: B Dec 9, 2022 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Properly creepy and mysterious, with children and a woman imperiled, folk horror stick figures and even a shrubby looking beast glimpsed in the shadows, wandering the forest. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 5, 2022 Full Review Joel Fisher Battle Royale With Cheese There is also the bewildering sense that the audience has either been lied to or misled in some way because it seems to rely on torture porn and weird rituals so that it can appease the horror crowd. Also, less said about the ending the better. Dec 2, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
