Altho this was a bit slow in parts, it was an interesting historical epic, which movies hardly attempt anymore. TERRENCE HILL & CATHERINE DENEUVE were good. NEVER saw it before on free TV THE MOVIE CHANNEL, 8-2020 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member With Sydrow, Hackman, Deneuve, and Hill, you've got a great cast. The interplay between Deneuve and Hill is humorous, poignient, and romantic and carries the film. But it's not actually a war film, for there's only one battle and it's at the end, but more of a character study of the harsh reality of soldiering in the French foreign legion, an army in which the soldiers are beholden to it not France. If you were looking for a lot of killing and action, you've come to the wrong place. But if you want a well told story, witty dialogue, and good acting, this is the movie to see Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Rather predictable "protect the fort from the enemy" movie. You get the usual company misfit, hard hitting commanding officer, company bonding, and a love interest. Gene Hackman is good, but does not excel. The final battle scene is well done and intense. Not historically accurate, but then again it's not a documentary.
