Audience Member Featuring a heart-breaking performance from Dolphy at its heart, Markova is full of fleshed out characters buoyed along by the heart-wrenching storytelling of Portes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member wow a Dolphy movie---in Rottentomatoes------- Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member "In the land of macho dancers, he was the most dangerous thing of all...himself." Fantastic tagline for a very revealing look into the life of a 'comfort gay;' flashback scenes were well-done, with the "butter or cheese" scene offering loads of unintentional laughs. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Gil M Portes (Miguel/Michelle, 1999) tells the unconventional true story of Walter Dempster, Jr, otherwise known as Markova. After watching a documentary about the suffering of women forced into prostitution during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, Markova decides to tell his own painful story to reporter Loren Legarda. Escaping the torment of growing up with an abusive older brother, he and his friends found further suffering at the hands of Japanese soldiers, forced into sex work to survive. But even after the war, Markova's struggle continued. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Very well done. The actor portrayals were pretty amazing, and the production design for mid-20th century Philippines was remarkable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
