Through booms and busts, Delft Theatres Inc. -- and its innovative gem, The Nordic -- endured in Marquette Michigan for almost 100 years, even as the world changed endlessly around them. Local kid Bernie Rosendahl's modern crusade to restore the historic arthouse to its former glory leads filmmakers to discover a hidden cinema empire in the Upper Peninsula. Portraying the fascinating history of motion pictures through one iconic screen -- and featuring dozens of Michigan locations and characters -- "Marqueetown" is a true story of chasing your dreams, redefining failure and success, and reembracing the enduring magic of cinema.

Tina G I was thoroughly delighted by this inspiring documentary. The creativity in telling the story of one man's obsession with saving a beloved theater made me cry, cheer, and reaffirm my belief in the tenacity of the human spirit. Well done!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Breanne R A wonderfully told story of community, the film industry, and the sign industry. This film speaks to the souls of all those in fine arts - a community coming together to save history. Well worth a watch or ten. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Kimberley S This movie was both entertaining and heartfelt. I could definetly identify with the desire to hold on to the magic of the early marquee theaters, something that isn't present in today's movie conglomerate. I felt such a nostalgia for my first movie experience in our local marquee theater and for the buildings in my town that hold such a rich history but have changed over time. The architecture and attention to detail in these buildings is remarkable and a true work of art. Jordan Anderson's movie captures not only one man's passion to restore his local marquee theater but also ignites a passion in the viewer to think about the place where you live and the importance of the buildings and businesses that framed towns and families. The movie will make you chuckle and it keeps a mometum throughout that keeps you engaged. Well done! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review thomas w The movie is a delightful story about a man who is driven to resurrect a classic old single screen theater space in Marquette, Michigan, but ends up accomplishing its preservation by working with the new owner to repurpose the building as a distillery in a way that acknowledges the building's prior history, honors it and preserves it for the community. The director does a wonderful job of layering archival film footage, interviews and modern day film footage. An additional bonus is the brilliant soundtrack. Go see this movie at a your local theater! (It was a joy to see it at The Screening Room in Tucson, Arizona.) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Juan G A well thought out journey. A fantastic nostalgia joy ride hopefully inspiring you to remember your dreams. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Carlyle S These talented first-time filmmakers take a subject that could be of only regional or specialized interest (the preservation and revitalization of two movie theatres in Marquette, Michigan) and through insightful interviews, thorough and revealing research, and hilarious historical re-enactments, create a broadly entertaining triumph that celebrates one man's relentless determination and revels in the magic of cinema and, yes, the underappreciated yet integral facet of every movie theatre, the marquee. You'll cry, smile and laugh (and laugh and laugh). A must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
