Audience Member For a moment at the end, I thought what if she lose and the baby dies! Such a breath taking movie. Calm but strong at the same time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review jon c based on the true story of Indian female boxer Mary Kom who became the first female boxer to win the Arjuna Award becoming a true inspiration for girls Priyanka Chopra stars as Mary Kom who's always had the heart of a fighter her whole life the movie opens in 2007 with a curfew in effect in Manipur with local law enforcement arresting rebels while shes in labor, Mary even has a memory of something similar with a plane crash occurring back in 1991 and she picks up a pair of boxing gloves giving her a love for it the story of Mary takes place in the early 2000's; she wants to be a boxer but there's one thing standing in her way and that's her strict father forbidding her from getting into any physical altercations and instead wanting her to act as a proper lady finishing her education only to find a husband of course it leads her to make the tough decision either obeying her father's wishes or do the sport without his support Mary wants to go her own path yet she has to learn that boxing gloves are used for sport not fighting according to a championship coach Narjit Singh, she also wants to be up there with the guys but when it also came to marriage it would be difficult juggling her boxing career along with expected family rituals women were known for, did she quit too soon? the level of regret not finishing begins to weigh on her not to mention one of her twin children had to undergo surgery for a hole in the heart time, joy and identity are essential; give all that to boxing and the training pays off, boxing is also a game of points not knockouts, no boxer is shown mercy in the ring, a woman becomes stronger even after becoming a mother Priyanka Chopra is spectacular in the lead showing the angst but also the dedication of a true fighter, the music is soothing as always, the boxing scenes are shot terrifically as well true like any biopic there are liberties as far as accuracy and creating drama for the sake of it but the real Mary Kom won the 2008 world boxing championship through will power without worrying about anything being easy or tough, that's what makes her a tough cookie that doesn't give up she was named 'Magnificent Mary' for a reason showing any woman can rise to the top Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review r 9 Good film about 'Mary Kom'. It takes the usual liberties that biopics tend to do, but this film does it well as the story it produces is very interesting. It arguably should be around 20-30 minutes shorter, but I still found the pacing to be fine - the progression through her boxing career itself helps keep things rolling. Priyanka Chopra does a grand job in the lead role, while Sunil Thapa supports astutely as Singh. Darshan Kumar is also solid as Onler. The acting in general is satisfactory. The music suits proceedings, also. You don't need to be a sports fan to enjoy this. Worthy of a watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A dilemma about a woman who negotiates familial and societal odds to emerge on the top and to be a world Championship. Priyanka Chopra owes it..from beginning till the end. Amazing💕😍 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing! Don't understand the negative reviews too well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review yash b "Mary Kom" doesn't do anything particularly new for the sports drama genre but it follows a solid formula very well. One aspect of the movie that makes it very captivating is Priyanka Chopra's lead performance. Her portrayal of the titular character is handled well and she becomes easy to empathize with and root for. I found great enjoyment in this movie and think it is a solid entry for sports movies. I do feel certain plot points are less engaging and the movie isn't structured in the best way, but it never hinders too much from the movie overall. All in all, it's a true story that'll both entertain you and inspire you which is all I can expect from this sort of biopic. Mar 19, 2018 Full Review Deepanjana Pal Firstpost Omung Kumar's Mary Kom is a bland film that quickly becomes boring because there's no tension in the story. But it has Priyanka Chopra.
