Nick F Massacre At Fort Holman is a 1972 Spaghetti Western – also known as A Reason To Live, A reason To Die – and stars James Coburn as a disgraced American civil war army officer trying to restore his reputation. After being forced to surrender his fort and fleeing to safety, he is determined to recapture it – aided only by a small band of seven men who volunteered only because they were all due to be hanged the next day. Yet en route to the fort, these ruthless killers stay loyal to Coburn which stretches credibility a little! While Coburn delivers his usual cool and classy performance, co-star Telly Savalas as the commander of the fort Coburn is trying to capture, has comparatively little screen time and even then, merely has to look rather impassive. This gritty Western was filmed in Spain and well-directed by Tonini Varerii, and offers plenty of gunplay as Coburn and his small team try to take control of the hill-top fort against what appear to be overwhelming odds. Would not have been as good without James Coburn.
