joe m "The Master of Ballantrae" is an ok swashbuckler, taken down by that there is no real villain other than the British and by Errol Flynn's rather lackluster performance. The films settings has a sort of Disneyland feel, especially when in the Caribbean where it's seems like it might have been a prelude to the Disney ride. Not a bad movie, but not up to some of the better films of this genre. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member considring the man had hepatitis attack during the making of the movie and the fa ct that he would die 6 years after making this movie is an amazing testament to the mans talent and tenacity.Any Flynn movie is better than no Flynn at all. the scenery was spectacular, the fight scenes athletic and exciting. the movie was made for him. the only person who bored me was beatrice campbell....no spark between she and Flynn at all. Just a shame Flynn didnt live now. with all the healthy eating and exercising Mr. Flynn could have looked better for a long time Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Errol Flynn's last film with Warner Bros tries to recapture his swashbuckling glory days, but this film feels pretty tired, as does Flynn, nearly 20 years after his star making turn in "Captain Blood". However, some absolutely gorgeous photography by the brilliant Jack Cardiff, who shot everything from "The Red Shoes" to "Rambo: First Blood Part II", makes this film a visual feast. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Errol Flynn's last studio film is pretty good if nowhere near the heights of "Captain Blood" or "The Adventures of Robin Hood". It's helped greatly by Roger Livesey's supporting turn. Livesey makes every film just a little better. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Just one of those Errol Flynn movies from the twilight of his career, that delivers on surface level thrills without much depth or attention to quality. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Flynn's on board 4 this his final WB film swashbuckling all the way out the door Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
