Some critics believe pretty boy comics have no material. That’s not the case with Rife, who knows how to craft a joke and a routine complete with callbacks and all the usual stand-up tricks. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 3d Matt Rife: Natural Selection is a 2025 comedy special filmed in Baltimore, Maryland, showcasing Matt Rife’s incredible comedic talent. His crowd work is top-tier, combining improvisation and prepared jokes seamlessly, keeping the audience engaged and the energy high. Baltimore-specific humor, like the bit about driving to the beach and locking your doors, lands perfectly and highlights Rife’s ability to connect with viewers while remaining relatable and sharp. The special is on a larger stage than his usual intimate shows, which broadens the feel without diminishing his charisma or performance. He navigates between audience interactions and scripted material flawlessly, maintaining momentum throughout. While the production is minimal, it keeps the focus entirely on Rife, whose timing, wit, and confidence carry the special. Overall, Natural Selection is playful, clever, and consistently funny, cementing Matt Rife as a rising star in comedy. Highly recommended for fans See more matthias s @Thescreenasvor 09/23/2024 *Matt Rife: Natural Selection* left me with mixed feelings. As a fan of his improv talents, I was hoping for more of the spontaneous crowd work that he excels at, but this special felt flat. While there were a few chuckles, especially during the bit about his stepdad's VHS collection, the rest of the material just didn’t land for me. It seemed like Rife wanted to venture into darker humor, but it felt forced and out of character. His offensive jokes, especially about women and fatphobia, weren’t funny; they just felt like statements rather than clever punchlines. It wasn’t that I was offended, but the humor lacked the sharpness and wit that makes good dark comedy work. Overall, the special wasn’t well-written, and Rife shines much more when he’s improvising with the audience. Stick to what works best, Matt! See more Jøren F 08/20/2024 Positivly surprised. Its actually ok. Hes still got some work to do, but I really think the negative reviews is more about his antics than his actual comedy See more Alasdair M 08/10/2024 Thinks he's Daniel Sloss, but is actually a cross between Michael McIntyre and Jimmy Carr minus the jokes. Smug, complacent, puerile observational comedy without believable observations. If tempted to watch this on Netflix, don't. Watch Daniel Sloss instead. See more Fadhila A 07/23/2024 I don't understand why people aren't talking about this...Matt's materials are actually so good, I can't stop laughing 😂😂😂 I would recommend this to my family and friends 100% See more Jens B @Jens97 07/19/2024 got a lot of chuckles out of me and that's what I wanted on a Friday afternoon I liked the irony of his young people-hating persona, maybe I just like misanthropy. I didn't like how long he stretches his bits, his story telling could be more tightly crafted. See more Read all reviews
