Critics Consensus

Miranda July's debut feature is a charmingly offbeat and observant film about people looking for love.

A perfectly-realized vision: from the sound design to the acting to the direction. For a first film, I was astounded. Go to Full Review

"Me and You" has a refreshingly unhysterical (but sometimes hysterically funny) take on what it's like for kids to grow up in a world of Internet sex, broken families and precocious sexual curiosity. Go to Full Review

Dj W Aug 13 The rendered synopsis is awful. This movie is mostly about how different strains of personalities are creative in their lives, contrasted with a few that aren't. The work is wonderful to behold! Some will object to the portrayal of an under age sex scene; understandable. Overall, though, it is a love story that has little to do with the scene just described, and everything to do with regular folks being artful. See more Kevin L @Lakeman Apr 5 I know Miranda July likes the wacky and the quirky, but this was too much of the wacky and way too much of the quirky. Throw in some kooky, and some twisted sexualizing of a seven-year old, and you lose me. Seriously, what the hell with this little boy and online sex talk? Couldn't take it any way artistically. I found the lead characters hard to believe as actual ppl, esp. July's character. Unless she's mentally ill. It had potential of being a really warm, sweet flick about an eccentric pair of ppl finding one another, and the dynamics of adolescents stuck between childhood and YA ages. Not sure how Ebert gave this crackpot movie 4 stars. Macaroni? More like crack-a-roni. 2.4 stars See more Godfrey D 08/10/2024 Its a greatest movie. Looking for a movie with a great Rotten Tomatoes score, I came across "Kajillionaires." Amazed by that film, I next went to this, her debut film. Believe me when I tell you that you are in for a rare and magical experience when you skip into her world. Now I get to experience everything else she's done. I've got my smile ready. See more Alec B 10/13/2023 Its like a Todd Solondz film in that way it looks at weird human relationships but it doesn't have the same humor or emotional power. Terribly obnoxious and smug.
