      Critics Consensus

Some solid set pieces aren't enough to compensate for Medieval's thin and often incomprehensible plot.

      Audience Consensus

Even if Medieval's nothing special as far as the story goes, the action is impressive -- and it does a good job of capturing the brutality of the era.

Anthony Based & surprising! More movies of the old world should be made… when Real Men, God & Chivalry mattered. It is no longer & look where we ended up. Hail victory… Hail Evropa. 14 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/22 Full Review E.D. Loved the scenery and characters. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/22 Full Review Rick The movie was a somewhat fictionalized account of Czech military leader Jan Zizka. IT was generally very good with only a few instances where creative license were used. It was informative and entertaining at the same time. Overall it was a good movie and time well spent Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/20/22 Full Review julie Good Movie. Very violent, but in a historically appropriate way. The violence was completely believable and well done. Story line was interesting and a piece of history I had never heard before. Movie was a little too long for me, as many are. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/22 Full Review tom k Great some historic background creative fiction with threads of the truth. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/22 Full Review Elijah I think there's probably a decent movie somewhere in this. lots of weird decisions in pacing, directing and editing. Phil Hoad Guardian If it can’t muster much historical insight, this Bohemian foray rhapsodises violence all too effectively: mace-smitings, nose-bitings, even a lion crunching someone’s head like a boiled sweet. Rated: 3/5 Oct 25, 2022 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap Struggles as a work of historical fiction, but when the action mounts, it’s immersive and exciting. Sep 9, 2022 Full Review Katie Walsh Tribune News Service A film with an identity crisis, caught between its lowbrow sword-and-splatter charms and grander ambitions... The clarity of message gets hopelessly bogged down in the internecine conflicts of all the players. Rated: 2/4 Sep 9, 2022 Full Review John Serba Decider The film works best as a passable small-scale battle epic, but beyond that, it’s rough sledding. Apr 7, 2023 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Any movie that calls itself Medieval, with the story taking place in medieval Europe, fails to have any credibility when the lead character has an American accent. It's just one of many problems in this mindless and boring action film. Mar 25, 2023 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall This is a full-blooded take on the true story of a legendary Czech folk hero, and writer-director Petr Jakl infuses it with plenty of entertaining myth-making.
