In this experimental envisioning of a peasant revolt in 1890s Hungary, hundreds of farmworkers rebel against landowners in hopes of receiving improved working conditions. Socialists (Andrea Drahota, Tibor Molnar, Jozsef Madaras) continually recite manifestos, laborers play protest songs and beautiful country girls liberate themselves of their clothing. Even soldiers sent to stop the revolt are swept up in the joyous rebellion. But, when the peasants push their politics, violence erupts.

Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl ...the whole film contains only 26 shots (or 27 or 28 according to some), showing off the ability of Jancsó and cinematographer János Kende to choreograph action without cuts and move the camera with effortless fluidity. s r 1001 movies to see before you die. I appreciate Jancso's work, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it. The scrolling artsy shots just are tedious and don't conform to effective storytelling. Jancso focuses on a feeling that doesn't resonate with me. It was on Dailymotion.
