MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor's daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.

Critics Consensus

More of a creative manifesto than a cogent narrative feature, Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis is an overstuffed opus that's equal parts stimulating and slapdash.

Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I love the earnestness, sincerity, and ingenuity behind this... I can't say it's good, but I think people should see it -- and in IMAX to take in the enormity of it all. Oct 9, 2024 Full Review Adam Kempenaar Filmspotting ...unabashedly, absurdly theatrical, with boldly unnatural dialogue and performances, ostentatious imagery, and one extended cross-cutting sequence that’s as potent as any Coppola has produced. Rated: 4/5 Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Johnny Oleksinski New York Post A zero-star, wacko disaster... Rated: 0/4 Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Angelo Muredda Film Freak Central Whether Megalopolis has the kind of critical afterlife its filmmaker clearly hopes it will, there’s a sweet quality to its hopefulness in the face of things trending down in every direction, and a gentleness to its commitment to the family... Rated: 3/4 Nov 11, 2024 Full Review Michael A. Smith MediaMikes Visually the film is breathtaking, and it is here that Coppola shines. The man has fourteen Academy Award nominations and five Oscars and his place in the history of cinema is assured. Rated: 3/5 Nov 10, 2024 Full Review Carmen Paddock Movies We Texted About In Megalopolis, love and grief become deep, ungovernable forces that empower memories and actions while threatening to overwhelm at every turn... The effect, and Driver’s often-mysterious but always grounded performance, is overwhelmingly poignant. Nov 8, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Joe If you take six shots and go in to watch this movie right afterwards, you’ll have a fantastic experience like mine Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Roohi i walked out like an hour into it. Aubrey Plaza was most of the reason I stuck around for as long as I even did. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Jeff P beautiful fable completely unreal and very true probably not for everyone Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review Mary Did not understand the plot of the movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review george It was basic. It took overacting to new levels. It had some half baked Wes Anderson attempts. The plot was unenlightening. The best part of the film was leaving. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Andrew h FFC took the worst parts of wes anderson, the cohen bros and shakespear, bundled them into a bad 70s psychedelic movie and hoped it would prove a political point. fun night of looking at my watch to see how much time was left Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
