Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times A lot of work went into it, and some good things are here and there. But the underlying inspiration for the film is a very, very bad idea. Audience Member This is a perfect adaptation of Macbeth that really holds up. I saw it when it first came out and twice, as a teacher, showed it to grade 10 general classes who absolutely got into the Shakespeare as a result: It follows the play scene for scene. Stephen Wright's take on the Porter is the first time I've seen that character work; the reimagining of the witches is inspired. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Weird attempt to do Macbeth as a mob movie. Don't waste your time! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring retelling of "Macbeth" in a gangster setting. Out of a typically excellent cast, Dennis Farina was the only one who seemed to give a performance with any life. If you want to watch Shakespeare retold in a new setting, watch Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood" or Ian McKellen's "Richard III". And if you want Shakespeare in a mafia setting, watch "Godfather Part III". Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Weird attempt to do Macbeth as a mob movie.
