David Stratton The Australian Joshua Z. Weinstein's film is very modest but never less than interesting in the insights it offers into this rarefied world on the edge of Manhattan. Rated: 3/5 Apr 4, 2018 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald It's a film that just keeps getting stronger as it goes, unfolding almost imperceptibly and becoming deeper with each scene. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 2, 2018 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times It goes within one of the world's most filmed cities to discover an environment rarely revealed to outsiders. But it also wins kudos for the emotional honesty of its uncomplicated narrative. Rated: 4/5 Dec 11, 2017 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine Menashe is frustrating because it takes hard-earned access, retains documentary virtues, and then dilutes it all via a screenplay that hits every beat exactly where you’d expect. Jan 11, 2023 Full Review Leigh Monson Substream Magazine Seeing single fatherhood examined in the context of another culture that exists alongside other more commonly conveyed American cultures is a unique experience film-goers are not often afforded. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 25, 2020 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Menashe is an easygoing, heartfelt comedy held together by a thread of tenderness. Dave C "Shot with a mobile camera, making spare use of music, Menashe would deserve our attention for its oddness alone. Here is a film featuring a lead actor who had never seen a film before. It goes within one of the world’s most filmed cities to discover an environment rarely revealed to outsiders. But it also wins kudos for the emotional honesty of its uncomplicated narrative. Here are things that happen to few of us. Here are things that happen to all of us." - Donald Clark, The Irish Times Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Lulinda L I learned a great deal while watching this movie. I thought I knew more than I did. Our differences in cultures makes the world go round. It also makes the world a far more interesting place. It seems we all have MORE in common than not. A desire for acceptance & belonging, qualities of tolerance and patience. Most of all the universal innate need of L-O-V-E!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review ikiru y Overrated. It is an interesting look into a sub-culture that is rarely seen. BUT, as a piece of entertainment, it is simple and mostly unengaging. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review rosey r This is a very sad and slow moving movie. It gives a small glimpse of living in a orthodox community. I liked the character of Menashe but grew tired of his inadequacies. I did not finish the movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed the movie. bound by a culture where man cannot raise his child alone without a wife, this widow remains true to his value and orthodox jewish culture, while going agains some of the rules that are antithetical to the love he has to raise and be with his son. Heartwarming and beautiful to see the main character put love and his belief to love his son at the forefront. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
