Audience Member This movie is good... as a superhero movie. Seriously, this movie has superhero complex and cliche problem. Every Indonesian is right and all dutch is wrong. They should make Justice League, not war movies. Rated 2/5 Stars •  Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member hope the sequel will be better =) Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member hmm... okay. lemme begin. i've read several *bad* reviews about this movie, about how undetailed the research was (e.g. for the clothings during that time of year, the timing of the actors, the silly stiff dialogues, the sightings of film crew within a scene, the bad flow of the story, etc.) and i think those aren't judgmental. technical errors are here and there, but this movie successfully brought my mind back to the life during war, the love stories, the struggles, etc. If we compare it to Baler (a Pinoy movie - with similar background of war time), oh heck yea... Merah Putih sucks. I was wondering if during the war, people do talk like that.... like translated scripts, weird, and waaay too formal. Lines of good (and CUTE) actors dont even HELP!!! Tsk! Where did you go wrong? I was wondering (again), why the heck were the trucks blew up when the jeep drove off the road? Did anyone put grenades on those trucks?? Or did you just want to make one heck of an explosion to entertain the viewers? Well I am certainly NOT entertained! The movie started strong, loved the camera angles etc when it started, so I thought that the articles I read were bunch of bullcrap. Well.... I was wrong and they were right. I heard that they are going to make this movie as a trilogy. SO PLEASE PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE WITH CHERRY ON TOP..... reWRITE the script and make it MORE relaxed. 'Its war time and u said relax?' well... the message just dont get to my brain, with scripts like this one. This is Indonesian Box Office material for God's sake! Hahahaha... Dialogues in Merantau is even better. In conclusion, i love the concept. Put more SPICES in it... watch Baler and LEARN, do more research like the crew who made Ca Bau Kan (fashion-wise, and dialogue-wise) -- that movie is also about our colonial era. I would love to watch the other 2 sequels just to see if there's any difference, and I would be more than happy to see Donny there again.. Hahahaha... it's all about Donny tonight!
