CC This another movie about the human condition. Prefaceā€¦ Millions die during an ongoing epidemic. There is a violent escape from a government ā€˜shelter camp' and Esther is eventually on her own after becoming separated from ā€˜the solider' she is not avoiding, but wants to be reunited with her main caregivers since she lost her parents in the camp while she was yet very young. Merrick lives a solitary life with only one person who lives nearby known from pre-epidemic times. This beautiful home is also his pre-epidemic home. Esther turns up, but due to lack of disclosure unnecessary loss is incurred. It is dark and I expected it to be moody considering the circumstances. If already a book, it probably was good. Sometimes I'm better pleased when screenplays adhere to the original book. I'd need to look up the background of its origins to see how well its development matches. If not already written, this movie could have been much, much better if an original screenplay. I recently discovered the actor portraying the ā€˜soldier-caregiver', 4 stars. Both movie viewings I've had of him were impressive. I will be searching for more of his acting roles. Merrick, 5 stars, the character was incredibly believable as portrayed and the background provided by his nearby-living friend. His was the best overall acting in the movie. The teen, Esther, was less believable, only 2.5 stars. She actually detracted from the suspension of disbelief. Her physical behavior does not seem like someone who had grown up in the camp. Her character was tainted by the typical teenager acting like someone who just walked off the street in any current high school genre. Overall, an ok movie, but nothing here is memorable except from the Merrick character portrayal. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
