An unassuming teacher, Jefferson Reed (Robert Townsend) lives and works in an urban area plagued by a tough gang. When a falling meteor hits Jefferson, he discovers that he has gained numerous superpowers. Encouraged by his father (Robert Guillaume) and mother (Marla Gibbs), Jefferson sets out, somewhat awkwardly, to become a crime-fighting hero. While he manages to improve his community, he finds out that his powers aren't limitless, making his efforts more challenging.

There is a pleasing off-kilter balance to the view of his world, where the good guys have all the best lines, but the baddies have a monopoly on dress sense.

I enjoyed watching this movie when i was a child. It has a ton of great actors, Marla Gibbs, James Earl Jones, Don Cheadle, the list goes on! Seeing the movie again, 31 years after its release, It does seem low budget and silly. That being said, I believe it is a child's movie. To anyone who has already seen it, it's a nostalgic film.

Admittedly I do like the basic concept of this movie & the comedy is there but The Meteor Man does suffer for not having a clearly identity as it doesn't knows it wants to be a old school comedic superhero movie or a mellow-drama.
