Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times A well-intentioned but drawn-out crime drama. Oct 23, 2015 Full Review Daniel M. Gold New York Times "Mi America" is not just about a murder case but about how residents of divided communities share a history and deal with one another, sometimes hopefully, always warily. Oct 15, 2015 Full Review Monica Castillo Village Voice It's a timely message, but not the way Mi America delivers it. Oct 13, 2015 Full Review Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat Spirituality & Practice A harrowing portrait of the virulence of racial hatred in a small New York community. Rated: 3/5 Oct 17, 2015 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International How could such good intentions result in such an unconvincing, deadeningly obvious morass? Ask the triple-threat-against-decent-filmmaking at the forefront. Oct 16, 2015 Full Review Harvey S. Karten Compuserve While both political parties seek to win over Hispanics, a few U.S. residents want to kill them. This narrative film tells the latter story graphically. Zoe H A wonderful movie, made locally. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Opens a real conversation, delivers on the message. Great accomplishment for an indie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Many great performances shed light on crimes against Hispanics and the complex web of society that perpetuates hate crimes and discrimination. As Ronaldo's past is unraveled along with the crime he is obsessed with, we wonder how Ronaldo has remained on ethical high ground. There are many nuances to the characters in this movie. Robert Fountaine has built them from news stories and personal experiences and he effectively shows us there is good and bad in all people. That perspective allows us inside a community struggling to get ahead, while weighed down by its past, which can take several generations to unravel. It is a story about immigrants, but it is also a story about ethics, love and family. Worth the price of admission. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw an early private screening of this last year and it was among the best movies I saw last year. A movie that speaks about corruption in this country involving racism and a hate crime and does so with no holds barred. The subtly powerful cinematography drives the detailed plot which is top notch. The story is a slow burn but the screenplay was tight and engaging with a satisfying ending. The cast was all top notch. Robert Fontaine Jr (who also beautifully directs) deftly plays his lead character Roe and other standouts include Michael Brainard who is fully invested in his role as well as Joshua Cameron who impresses in limited time as young Roe. This film needs to be released wide for the public to see filmmaking at its finest in the same vein of Clint Eastwood's Mystic River Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
